In Safari:

Preferences > Privacy

Safari (menu) > Private Browsing...

Google has proven that advertisers won't always honor these Privacy settings if they can help it, but that's a good start. There are other services like a Turing proxy that you can use to remain private from others on the Internet. It won't prevent local prying eyes, however.

Indeed. And it's a little surprising that the Genius Bar wouldn't have said the same. Did they give any info to go on?

While 5 years is getting up there in computer years, my parents are still rocking my old G4 tower from 2000. And I know someone who just now gave up her 11-year-old iBook, only because the Flash plug-in wouldn't work anymore (no new PPC version). You should be doing just fine, as long as your hard drive is ok and you have enough RAM to smoothly run whatever OS you have installed.

How full is your HD? Has your hard memory been updated? Either of those will creep up on you as sw becomes hoggier on both HD & regular memory, and cause things to bog down.

I have a 5 year old Macbook.
It's been running slow, I get the circle of death often, takes
a long time to load etc.
Took it to the Genius Bar at the Apple store and it seems to be
worse now.
Is it time for a new Macbook or do you think it can be revived and resusitated?

Re: [MacBook] upgrading to 10.7

Elaine,

Mountain Lion is, in fact, 10.8.

I haven't lost any files, just had to dapt to a fw new ways of doing things, that's all. Oh, and also come to terms with the fact that in order to use it on my Mac Pro, I actually have to buy a new Mac Pro, or at least a newer second-hand one.

I'm curious about this too............. since it can be used with a PC I don't know why it couldn't be used with Lion or Snow Leopard!

Correct me if I am wrong, but as I understand it in order for me to make use of iCloud on my iPad and sync to my laptop I will have to upgrade to Mountain Lion ( 10.7).
My question is this: what will I lose when I do this? Will it affect Microsoft Office files that I use?

Thanks!
