Re: [MacBook] Flashback virus?

I did the update, it found another piece of malware, removed it. All fine here now.

Re: [MacBook] Flashback virus?

Carry out the latest on-line software update: (Software Update from the Apple menu) you'll find that a fix has been developed and is available for installation. It's quick and simple, so worry no more.

John

[MacBook] Flashback virus?

Friends of mine are concerned about the Flashback virus.
Here's an article:

How to know if your Mac is infected with the Flashback virus (and how
to fix it)

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/technology-blog/know-mac-infected-flashback-virus-fix-181632690.html

How much of a problem is this? What are the symptoms of infection?
What should we do?

"Software update" a few days ago included a security update from Apple
so I installed that; presumably it will protect my MacBook Pro if it
has not been infected. The article above mentions ways to find out if
your Mac is infected and to remove the virus, but they're not from
Apple and I don't know the company so I hesitate to use them.

[MacBook] TW EQ Bringing in Sony Handycam video on a MBP

2012 04 16

We purchased a Sony HandyCam (XDR XR160) a short time back and now would like to transfer video(s) to our Macs (running OS 10.6.8) for viewing and editing. But reading the manual got me worried, since it seems to slough off Mac users (contact Apple for help...) on the transfer question. The web was not a big help.

There is a 160 GB HD and a chip slot on the C Corder. Can I use USB to make the transfer or do I need some sort of HDMI cable, etc?

Does anyone have a cookbook for this?

Many thanks,

Jim Hardwick

Hummerbydesign.

Yep. Did all that and no change. Matter of fact did it to the working MacBook and it is still working fine. The troubled one still does not print. Must admit it has me stumped. Maybe a preference file that is corrupted in the troubled MacBook? Not sure.

I'm not sure, but I looked up your problem on the Apple site, and here is a link to its answer. Printer troubleshooting for AirPort Base Stations and Time Capsule https://support.apple.com/kb/TS1253
Let us know if you find the issue.

[MacBook] MacBook does not print via Time Capsule / Airport network

Hello to the Group.

I have a perplexing printing problem with only one of my MacBooks. I am running the Time Capsule/Airport for a local network and have been in the past printing wirelessly through this set up with both of my MacBooks. But something changed in one of the Macs.

Recently one of my two laptops no longer can print this way. It can print just fine through the direct USB connection to the printer but not on the network.

I "re-added" the printer via the Print and Fax System Preference panel. Checked "share printer" on network. The printer drivers are up to date and identical with the MacBook that does print via the network. I checked Sharing Preferences and everything is checked correctly.

The symptoms are that the troubled MacBook does not seem to "see" the printer via the network. It can not see the ink level indicators and upon printing it just says "connected to printer" but nothing happens.

The printer is connected to the Time Capsule via an Ethernet cable and or USB cable. Neither works with the troubled MacBook. Both work with the other MacBook. Both MacBooks are running OS 10.6.8. I reloaded the printer drivers on the working Mac and all is fine.

I am thinking the troubled MacBook needs some file Trashed and therefore rewritten. Right now I am at a loss to solve this problem. Any thoughts, help or suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Question for the group.
I just got the new iPad. I want to put to bed my trusty reliable friend iPad one.
How do I delete it from my profile with my Apple ID?
I know I can just go into the settings and erase all the data. But how do I take it off of my profile?

Thanks in advance.

RE: [MacBook] welcome New Member

Bought my Mac for Christmas. My first Apple product was an iPad that I bought a couple of years ago. Love them both. Still have my Dell Computer. It's great to have both and be familiar with both products. Mike

I have both Mac and PC and find a use for both. :-) But, when faced with desirable choices, I always try to choose both.

Good group. Helpful. Welcome.

I bought my first MacBook Pro when I retired in 2008 and wish I had done it years earlier. Glad I found this group.

[MacBook] Bluetooth Headphones for iPhone 3GS?

I'm a novice Apple user who is dissatisfied with the headset that came with my iPhone (sound quality, low volume, plus it's physically starting to come apart).

I'm thinking of making the "leap" to Bluetooth -- yes, I'm a technology laggard -- any recommendations on which Bluetooth Headphones to get?

I would be using this for talking on the phone primarily, and listing to music secondly.

Thanks for any feedback!

Basic guidelines:

1. This is a group of fellow users. This is not Apple. We do our best to share experiences and help others. Ask, participate, share, comment, gossip, enjoy, but leave the soapbox and sensationalism at home.

2. No spam. No advertising unless approved by the moderator. No discussion of cracks or pirating which could endanger the list.

3. No personal attacks. Offenders will be banned without warning.

4. Trim your quotes! This includes leftover Yahoo footers and signatures. Members who continually quote 60 lines, and only enter 2 of their own, may find themselves permanently moderated (or unable to post at all).

5. Please limit your signatures to 5 lines maximum, and do not post from any location which inserts legal disclaimer footers. Personal info in signatures, like email address and phone number, are probably best kept private. When in doubt, post without.
