It is 3 gb per month, not unlimited.

Sorry, not sure what you are asking for on the 2nd question...

Something seems to be messing up your typing or so it would seem as it comes across?? Maybe you're just in a hurry :-)

At first I thought you meant a "MiFi" type hotspot but I believe instead you are referring to a wireless USB plug in type device. Is changing the gender, etc, to connect it to your iPad the question?

I wonder if it will work even if you can connect it, since I have not heard of software for it (but the Apple store is a big place). My wife & I havve been using MiFis from Verizon with our iPads. 3 gb (each) for $35 each per mo. We've never activated the AT&T service on the iPads, but at least it is there if we need it, no contract, service by the month.

The modem I'm talking about is Sierra wireless and I have found nothing applying to that modem in the apple store. I think I'm getting rid of that if I'm not able to use it. I don't think it has a simcard. I might be able to put my phone simcard in my ipad and use that since it's unlimmited internet, but I think that might cause more problems. I don't think it would work well.

Re: [MacBook] Re: ipad usb adapter question

I'm looking at that possibility too, but I don't think much runs on the nokia e71x. I have that phone, and saw a program that connects the phone to the computer through wi-fi, but I don't know if it will be accessible with my speech software. This weekend, I'm getting at&t uverse, so that will solve the problem at home with wi-fi. there is one at work that that doesn't require a password, but the ipad doesn't want to connect to it, but the nokia does. I'm trying to solve that mystery. the ipad and phone both see the wi-fi hotspot, but the ipad won't connect to it. I'm still learning about wi-fi, so any comments would be appreciated. The problem with wi-fi is that I travel on the bus daily, and cannot access wi-fi as long as I'm not stationary.

Melissa,

A friend of mine was able to set up a local wifi hot spot using Bluetooth between her phone and the iPad. That might be an option.

Re: [MacBook] How to 'clean' Mac book pro?

I wouldn't bother; "cleaning" the system software and reinstalling is not necessary with modern Mac systems. And you do not need virus protection software.

Some browsers and other software benefit from time to time with emptying caches or whatnot, but it really depends on what you have installed. Follow the recommendations of the software author.

There are no major Mac viruses at the moment and OS X does a pretty good job of keeping itself clean, as long as you allow the periodic janitorial scripts to run. You can download a free utility like Onyx to run those manually and wipe cached data. OS X also does minimal defrag of data files on its own, but you could also run something like iDefrag overnight to dig into everything if you are dealing with an old system and many, many files.

In short, you don't really need to. The only time I'd wipe the drive and re-install the OS was if I was selling or buying the Mac and wanted it 100% clean, or if I'd installed something deep in the OS that had gone awry.
