WASHINGTON — President Obama will visit Israel this spring, his first trip to the country since the start of his presidency, White House officials said Tuesday.
Jay Carney, the White House press secretary, said Mr. Obama's plan came after discussing a visit with Benjamin Netanyahu on a call Jan. 28. He said details about the trip will come later.
Mr. Carney said the visit would provide the two leaders an opportunity to "discuss the way forward" on a variety of topics, including the security issues surrounding Iran and Syria.
The president will also visit the West Bank and Jordan on his trip to the Middle East, Mr. Carney said.
