Hello to the Group,

Well it now appears I have to upgrade my MacBook to Lion since I recently upgraded my iPad to iOS5. The synching between the two is not working smoothly. I surmise I have to be using iCloud on both platforms for synching to work properly.

So my question is to those in the Group how is the upgrade doing? Any issues I need to know about before doing the upgrade? I have heard the download takes about an hour or so.

Did you take the original HD along to have it verified at the Apple store?

Try an HD that is NOT identical unit to the one that is misbehaving.

Welcome to the group, Mac!

Troubleshooting external devices almost always starts with the cable, since it's the easiest to check/replace. Then, the biggest worry is the FireWire port on the Mac, since that is not separable from the logic board and would mean a major repair. Luckily, that checks out, too. So...

Has the drive ever shown up on the Mac since you purchased it? If not, do you know how it's formatted? If NTFS, it may simply not show in OS X. Have you run Disk Utility (in Applications/Utilities/) to see if it shows up there? If so, and you only plan to use it on the Mac, re-format (Erase) the drive as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" and that may solve things.

Last resort: I know it sounds like a drag, but you may have to bring the MacBook Pro *and* the drive back to the Apple Store. In-person, they could probably diagnose this in a few minutes.

The Macintosh Operating Systems, Mac computer, iMac, iBook, MBP, Macbook, iPod, iPhone, Pixar motion picture projects, imagine if an individual brought one of these projects to market let alone all of them. Steve have contributed a great deal to the Photo Industry and we owe him a lot of gratitude. Remember that little Apple digital camera? Now, think about how we do our jobs today and how are in complete control over how we produce our images.
