Re: [MacBook] Lion?

I'm not in love with Lion. I have it in two computers. I still have Snow Leopard on one computer which I still like the most. The lack of scroll bars in Lion still gives me fits. You can set the prefs so they display...a little but I have trouble with my eyes and find them hard to see. For me Hand Brake doesn't work well running Lion. If you like way the Mail displays on iPads you can have that on Lion. I have mine set for the "classic"way though. The Gestures was kind of fun to play with and I bought a Magic Track Pad so I could play with that on my big desktop computer but soon pulled out my mouse when the gimmicky part gestures wore off. I have not used Gestures on my laptop with Lion.

[MacBook] iPhone update problem

I recently synched my sister-in-law's iPhone to her Macbook, then synched her iPad to the Macbook. After that, I did the phone update to the current version. She cannot find her phone numbers on the phone now. My brother-in-law tried to help, and now she has e-mail addresses when she goes to Contact on the phone.

She doesn't know much about any of this, so she'll probably go to a Genius Bar when she gets home from visiting us, but I'm wondering if anyone has a simple fix for her to save her the time.

Thanks.

Re: [MacBook] Suggested uses for PowerPC PowerBook

I'm experiencing the same dilemma you are, but not only with a G4
PowerBook, but with a G5 PowerMac as well. Unfortunately there are fewer
and fewer options for these aging machines. PowerPC compatible versions of
Linux are still around but will have some limitations. For example there is
no Adobe Flash players or official Java support for PowerPC Linux. There
are some open source options but there may be some compatibility issues.
There may also be issues with connecting newer hardware to your older Mac
since new hardware drivers are not going to be developed for the older
PowerPc platform.

The latest version of Ubuntu can be found for PowerPC. Learn more at:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPCFAQ

Good luck,
Ed

[MacBook] Suggested uses for PowerPC PowerBook

This list has been interesting and many times very useful.

My Aluminum 15" PowerBook is still working well
on the last OS X that it can run.

I did injure the power connection port - it looks a bit funky but works.
And I just replaced the battery.

And, with not being able to upgrade the OS there are some consequences.
Safari and iTunes are limited.

So - the question to the experts here - what suggestions do you have?

I've googled this, and know of "trade it in" and "load Linux." Both are
possibilities - and - I'd like to read ideas from you.

Thanks,

David
