Re: [MacBook] Re: IPad vs. Kindle etc.

Hi Carol,

Is there a nearby store you can go to that will let you hold and try out both?
There are negatives & positives to both.
Honestly too many to list, in regards to ebooks and compatibility issues.
If you already own a Mac, I'd lean towards to iPad. It may cost a lot more, but I am willing to bet the operating system is a lot more friendly.
(Android is okay)

Re: [MacBook] Re: IPad vs. Kindle etc.

Comes out well?

I see nothing appealing about the Kendal Fire.

[MacBook] Re: IPad vs. Kindle etc.

Amazon has a chart comparing iPad to Kindle Fire at

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_362589622_3?ie=UTF8&docId=1000719771&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=auto-sparkle&pf_rd_r=5CF1CF25C4A94C15A363&pf_rd_t=301&pf_rd_p=1360296682&pf_rd_i=ipad

or

http://tinyurl.com/72hz7nc

Of course Kindle Fire comes out well in this chart. But there
must be other factors. I'd appreciate comments.

BTW, my priorities would be reading books and checking email.
I don't need to sync with non-Apple devices.

[MacBook] Re: 2006 Macbook Linux question

I am so glad you asked this question. My MacBook is 2007 and is running Snow Leopard. I anticipate that when the next OS comes out this summer Snow Leopard will no longer be supported. I am also considering going to Linux.

Now, the reason for being concerned about an unsupported OS is the issue of Internet security. The question is, do the various Linux versions maintain a current security level? In other words, is it worth the trouble to go to Linux or should I just stay off the internet (like that will ever happen). Which one is the most actively maintained and updated?

I have already run into this with a first generation iPod Touch which I have jail broken but I am not sure about the security situation with it, either.

[MacBook] 2006 Macbook Linux question

Hey everyone, I have the Early 2006 MacBook pro. And I'm thinking of
turning it in to a Linux desktop since it's no longer supported by
Apple. Have any of you done this? What version of linux would you
recommend?
I saw this course about Ubuntu http://umighty.com/ubuntu-course
<http://umighty.com/ubuntu-course> and think It might be what I need
considering I'm still horrified of the command line. I've also heard
that Mint is a good option too.
Any help would be appreciated!

Re: [MacBook] Re: IPad vs. Kindle etc.

The easiest would be a wireless modem.

[MacBook] Re: IPad vs. Kindle etc.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I'd appreciate ideas on my
second question:

If I get something that can connect to the net, I'd like to be able
to use it at home too. I have used Macs since the 80s but always with
a modem cable (have a MBP & DSL now) so I'm pretty clueless about
wirelessness. What would I need to be able to use an iPad/whatever?
