Plug it into an external monitor asap and back it up. If it displays similarly on an external it isnt good - but if so try bootimg it in TDM (target disk mode) while plugged into another mac.

Obviously you need these "other" things but Im just considering how you can save your precious data.

Hi.
I've got a late 2008 MacBook pro (Core 2 Duo,2.5ghz)and recently what looks like a halftone screen of vertical lines (look like vertical scan lines) appears 'over' everything.
It's hard to explain...so last night I was working and all of a sudden it's like someone put a screen of those lines over the entire screen. It distorts all of the text/graphics and makes it almost impossible to see anything. Then as quick as it happened, it blipped back off again.
It happened last weekend also, but took longer to go away. I rebooted holding the shift key and zapped the PRAM and that seemed to make it go away, but since it happened again last night, I'm guessing that wasn't the cause. HELP----I can't lose this computer right now.

I have a MBP and 1st gen iPad, and an iPod touch and I think comparing them is like comparing  grapes and grapefruit.    :-)   They all have a different use.   With the right bag they can all be brought along and all can be recharged in a motel room or car.   And I'd bet even on a train!
My only gripe is I barely got my iPad when iPad 2 appeared and now next gen iPad and I still have a warranty on my 1st gen!!!   Progress is good but I can't keep up.

Yeah, and I have a Macbook Pro that's better than the Macbook Air and the iPad  but it cost a lot more than the iPad.It really depends on your budget and what you want to do with your computer. Mike

I have the iPad 3 and love it. It does everything. The charge holds for a long

time. I have a car and home charger. They are small for traveling. The iPad does

it all.

If you are limited to getting one device, I would make it an iPad 3. Its retina display makes for a superb reading experience and there is a white on black mode available for the Kindle app in case you are light sensitive when using backlit devices for an extended time. In order for the iPad to be continually useful at home, you should also install a wireless router there.

The ideal combination would be the $79 e-ink Kindle AND the iPad. The e-ink Kindle is superb in brightly lit situations, including sunshine, is lightweight, and easier to hold for long periods of reading.

I've got a Kindle (the regular one, simply for reading), my husband has the Kindlefire, and we have an iPad2. I am going to be the naysayer here and say that I really despise the iPad - I find the touch screen and that little keyboard annoyingly hard to deal with, and I would never use it as a reader, as it's just too stinking heavy - but if I'm going somewhere that I don't want to take my MacPro but need a computer, the iPad is what I go for (AND bring my little Kindle along.) My husband likes his Kindlefire for reading AND for surfing the net, and I believe he accesses his email on it too (I've never played with it), but of course it doesn't have near the capability that the iPad has. I don't know how long it holds a charge, and with all of them it probably depends on what you're doing with it.

I've got an iPad I. Tonight, spent a few minutes with an acquaintance's Nook color. The Nook's pretty and lighter, and so a better book reader, but the interface was klunky, and it just does Barnes & Noble books. Can't see spending $$ for both. Gadget clutter.
